THE RECKONING: Black Women Rising and Shaping a New Future

You don’t have to look too far to see and understand the world at the moment and everything that’s coming to a fall across all industries. A fall of a society that has reigned for many centuries, and things are now exploding. I find it fascinating, many of the takes and predictions I hear about the future, but I seem to have a very unique perspective on what’s being both seen and experienced. Much of the world is now seeing consequences for their actions and behaviors towards Black people. A long overdue, yet timely time we are living in currently.

But, for a society that speaks so much about karma, and the understanding of what goes around, comes around, all the Christianity of various flavors and communities, it still fascinates me how many view this as a “surprise” as to what’s happening and occurring today. What I find more fascinating is that even with some degree of understanding of karma and even the notion of “what goes around, comes around,” did they not consider that the actions of their ancestors and themselves, would come back around? That they would simply escape one of the many laws of the universe?

When your ancestors and the world, essentially, have nearly attempted to suppress Black women and girls? And to add, THE MOST spiritually connected demographic on the planet? How could you ever believe that there wouldn’t be a time?

For the first time, I’ve seen in my lifetime, white women are too being held accountable in a way we as the world have never quite experienced before, and not only are they now beginning to be held accountable for their actions and the inflicted harm against Black women, but they too are being met with having to deal with things such as job loss, exposure of dependency, and even having their comforts they once enjoyed—all of which Black women have had or even dealt with at the hands of many of these women in some way, all of which have been afforded to them in some way, shape, or form by Black women.

White men continue to attempt to hold on to their dismantling power and structures while the illusion continues to dissolve and fall, exposing the true foundation of their sustainability. Their mediocrity in abundance and having the majority draw questions as to why we ever even played “their game” or even followed them in the first place. Where they once found favor, they’re now losing it by the day.

It’s essentially a call to action to those of us who desire to really see a better, more fair world. It’s also not amiss that there’s been a change in “tune” by Black men. How quickly they’ve attempted to jump back over the fence to realign with their Blackness—and Black women. While also remaining silent when it came to the very loud disrespect and allowance of it by not only other communities but them, themselves.

What I’m saying is, Black women and girls, we must keep our heads on a swivel. Many of us, at some point or another, have allowed our Blackness to blind some of us to the fact that because we share the same complexion, there’s an allegiance there—and well, it’s not. The truth is, we must center ourselves above anyone and everyone else, as everyone else has done—including Black men—at the expense of Black women. Those who have loudly shown us who and how they feel about Black women

and girls.

Right now, because of the impact Black women are having as a collective group in resting during this time. Think about that. Black men have fought harder for access to their preferences vs the protection of Black women and girls. I say that to say, it’s not amiss that they will have to also give an account for their actions.

Needless to say, I am proud of Black women and girls. I see this as an opportunity for us to build and create a new way forward for Black women and girls. With many systems dismantling and coming to a close, this is our opportunity to begin forging a new way. A new future for ourselves and one with us at the center. We are going to get it RIGHT this time.
