A New Future for Black Women + Girls - Its OUR Time

For too long, many of us have been so burdened by the pressures of survival in this society that we haven’t had the space to even imagine a new world for ourselves. In a society that often values us only for our labor, we’ve never been afforded the opportunity to consider what life could look like beyond just getting by. I will say this: Black women have done a remarkable job of sustaining, but this resilience proves we can rise above the demands of society. The reality is, we shouldn’t have to.

The future is undeniably bright for Black women and girls, but we must be willing to step into a new way of thinking and acting. For generations, Black women have been carrying the weight, doing it all for everyone else. But now, it's time to do it for ourselves—for our own futures and those of the women and girls who come after us.

For so long, we've been operating within a system that has never centered us. And yet, we’ve found a way to make it work. But have you ever wondered what a system made by us, for us, would look like? I know I have. For years, like many other Black women, I’ve been trying to find my way—working the jobs, doing what society told me to do, all while trying to find peace and happiness in between. But here's the truth: we've been compromising and bending ourselves like pretzels to fit into a mold that society deemed “acceptable.”

Right now, with Black women collectively at rest, there’s an incredible opportunity for us to reimagine our future. Many of us are sitting on untapped gifts and talents that take little effort but, together, could radically shift the trajectory of our lives. We don’t need to look outside of ourselves to create change.

I also realize that doing it alone, and acquiring success within this system, still wouldn’t be enough. We’ve seen it time and time again—success is often undervalued or stolen from us. The world should be consulting Black women and girls for our gifts and talents, but those gifts and talents shouldn’t be freely given for others to exploit or for us to remain undervalued and underpaid. Black women, if you didn’t know already: you are the currency.

Think about it: we are the blueprint. A world where we work together, crafting a future that is safe, nurturing, and empowering for both women and girls. The time is now. We are at a pivotal moment of opportunity.
